"I first met jack in Chicago at the first real chimney sweep convention. We took the first certification test together. I remember doing the test in about 30 minutes then discussing the answers for 3 hours. That was the convention that Jack joined the Board of Directors and he's been deeply involved with our Guild ever since. Jack's unselfish commitment dates from these Renaissance days of sweeping in the USA. These were the heady days of Eva Horton, Ken Hinkley, Ron Mazzeo, Fred Toldo, Chris Curtis and Jim Newman.

I've got my own reasons for believing that Jack Pixley deserves our Lifetime Achievement Award. I have recorded 3 confirmed instances where Jack has transferred his cheerleaders to me. I don't know how much time he spends educating each customer but these 3 transferees were so well versed about chimney safety issues that they just knew that their new purchase had to be serviced by a Certified Chimney Sweep. It is as if because I knew Jack- I must be an OK sweep. Well, it's great being part of a trade that has a Jack Pixley. Isn't it fitting to thank him for almost 25 years of commitment to our trade?"

Sincerely,

"How many times do you find someone with his wisdom? Not many. How many times do you find someone with his dedication? Not many. How many times do you find someone with his spirit? Not many. How many times do you find someone with his determination? Not many. How many times do you find someone with his leadership? Not many. How many times do you find someone with his faith? Not many.

Bundle all these gifts together and you have Jack Pixley. Now Jack will probably tell you that he is only a team player - one of many - dedicated to making our guild grow and prosper. Generations from now as the National Chimney Sweep Guild grows greater and stronger, our history will show the pioneering efforts of individuals like Jack will not have been in vain. And if any one person were singled out as having been there for the guild, I don't believe I know anyone more deserving of the first Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jack and I go back quite a number of years. In fact I served with Jack on the technical advisory committee when it was initially formed. I also continue to serve with Jack on the NCSG history committee. Jack's efforts to preserve our history is but one example of why this award is so deserving of Jack.

"Here are the things I know about Jack.

Jack is an educator and a teacher. During his "formal" career he taught industrial arts to high school students, but has also trained many chimney sweeps. He loves to be in front of the class passing on what he has learned to others. He has taught many certification classes and numerous seminars at convention. Jack has assisted many new sweeps with getting their business off to a great start, teaching them business principles, as well as technical skills.

Jack has been a long time member of the Technical Committee (he was probably one of the original members of the committee but I'm not sure). He has helped with many projects including the chimney fire burns in Oakland, the (zero-clearance) relining caucus in New Orleans, and writing of the original certification manual.

Jack really loves the chimney service industry and believes in what we are doing. This is evidenced by this devotion to the History displays at recent conventions, the displays in the Tech Center, and his creation of the Friendship Award (or Gift).

Jack is persistent. When jack sets a goal, he keeps on going until ge gets there. He's not bashful about reminding others along the way, either.

Jack is a great ambassador for our industry. Always positive and upbeat, greeting old friends and new sweeps with a smile and handshake. Jack has also made many trips to Europe and visited lots of sweeps there, sharing and exchanging ideas.

Jack served for many years as the rep to NFPA 211. He has been responsible for many positive code changes for our industry. Clean out doors were one of his pet projects, but there were many others. He was instrumental in the recent changes for relining/flue sizing requirements for exterior masonry chimneys. He also assisted with developing the 3-Level Chimney Inspection process.

Jack is a true friend - someone that you can count on year after year. Jack is always willing to lend a hand when something needs to get done. Jack is for real - no fake personas with this guy."
