In the past, if flue tiles were cracked or had gaps where the mortar had deteriorated, homeowners were left with only a few options. Reline the chimney with a stainless steel liner, reline the chimney using flue tiles again, continue to use a chimney that is unsafe, or convert to gas. For many homeowners this was a hard decision to make because of the overall cost for repair or conversion. That is why we are proud to be one of the only companies able to apply Heat Shield Cerfractory Sealant. Heat Shield is a UL listed product, with UL listing 1777. Heat Shield comes with a 20 year, limited warranty, and allows us to seal the existing flue liner on most homes.
Heat Shield Cerfractory is a great option for homeowners with an interior chimney. In the past, in order to install a stainless steel liner, we needed to make an access hole into the chimney somewhere inside the home. This was very inconvenient to the homeowner and made a mess. With Heat Shield, there is no mess! Heat Shield is a great alternative to a stainless steel liner.

The Heat Shield installation process is a one day process. It requires us to re-clean the flue system to ensure that the product will adhere to the tiles. We then measure the flue tile and custom make a sponge to apply the Heat Shield to the flue. After we have set the sponge in the flue we make up the Heat Shield Cerfractory. We are now ready to start the installation process. The installation process is a two part process. The first application is a thin coating that fills cracks, and open mortar joints, and scratch coats the remainder of the flue. We then wait for the first coating to dry before adding the second coat. The second coat that is applied is thicker and ensures that all parts of the flue are covered with Heat Shield. We then wait for the Heat Shield to dry completely. We run a camera to ensure that the process is successful. As part of the warranty, you will need to have a rain cover or top mounted damper installed, which we include with all of our Heat Shield proposals.
